Mount Vernon, Wash. — It was back-to-back hat-tricks for the Bulldogs in 24 hours. Senior defender, Bridger Tautvydas, scored his first career hat-trick while senior goalkeeper, Jose Batista, saw the field and scored a brace of his own.

Tuesday’s game marked the eighth win in as many games for the Dawgs (8-0-0), and it took the Nooksack Valley Pioneers to 0-5-1 in conference play.

Mount Vernon dominated Tuesday’s game, scoring nine times in the first half. Nooksack Valley did not challenge after that.

Kyler Houck scored Mount Vernon’s first two goals following passes from junior classmates Brandon Caro and Angel Casillas-Gil. Edgar Serrano tallied two of his own on assists from Angel Jimenez and Caro, and before the game was 15 minutes old, Casillas-Gil added a fifth when he knocked in a pass from Serrano.

Mount Vernon possessed the ball for the next 15 minutes until Bridger Tautvydas, senior defender, made his best impression of freshman phenom Aaron Diaz. It took Tautvydas all but three minutes to get not one, not two, but three goals to his name. Sophomore Miguel Galindo assisted two while junior Alexis Ortiz fed one of Tautvydas’ three.

Senior Adjani Herrera-Garduño also joined the party. Off an individual effort full of grit in the 39th minute, he would give the Dawgs a commanding 9-0 lead at the break.

It was a night of many firsts, and it was no exception for the senior goalkeeper, Jose Batista. Batista took over No.9 duties, and he did not disappoint. Batista netted his first in the 45th minute and second in the 72nd minute off an Israel Reyna assist.

Sophomore Ivan Garduño-Mendez would relieve senior goalkeeper, Alan Ruiz, to give him a chance to mimic Batista’s efforts. Unfortunately for Ruiz, the goal did not fall for him, but Ivan, usually a midfielder or defender for the Bulldogs, recorded a save.

Heading into their last two games of the season, Serrano leads the Dawg Pound with nine goals while Casillas-Gil tallies just as many assists on the season.

The Bulldogs will rest on Thursday and entrust the Junior Varsity to take on the Sedro-Woolley Cubs for them. Instead, the 21-man Varsity roster will rest before their showdown against the 2019 2A State Champions, Sehome.

Mount Vernon hosts Sehome on Saturday afternoon (May 1) at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs will also be honoring their senior class of 2021 in their annual Senior Night commemoration. The Bulldogs will then host the Bellingham Raiders on Monday evening (7 p.m.) to close off the 2021 season.
