Saturday, May 1, 2021 | 3:00 p.m. | Bulldog Stadium | Mount Vernon, Wash.
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The Region V No. 9 Mount Vernon Bulldogs (8-0-0) begin their quest for NWC sweep this weekend when they take on the Sehome Mariners at Bulldog Stadium.
This will be the Bulldogs’ second of a 3-game home stretch to finish off the season after dropping Sedro-Woolley from their schedule. Earlier this week, they secured an 11-0 win against 1A NWC rivals, Nooksack Valley.
The match will kick off at 3 p.m. against the Mariners, and it will be streamed on JustAGameLive. Fifty (50) percent of stadium capacity will be available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
Sehome will look to end Mount Vernon’s run with an offense that has netted 21 goals and a defense that has only conceded six times on the season.
Mount Vernon, like Sehome, boasts a stingy defense. The Bulldogs’ goals-against average is 0.75, only conceding six times in eight games. The Bulldog attack, however, has celebrated 56 times this season.
The matchup between the Bulldogs and Mariners will be the first in over 9 years. On that occasion, the Bulldogs handed the Mariners a 3-0 loss at Phillips 66 Soccer Park. However, the last time the Dawgs hosted the Mariners (April 22, 2011), they settled for a stalemate, 1-1.
The Bulldogs will get one day to rest before they turn around and host the Bellingham Raiders (6-0-2) on Monday night in what could play out to be a battle of undefeateds.
